Lesser known, but from a development standpoint equally problematic Federally Threatened Sand Skink (Neoseps reynoldsi) and the Bluetail Mole Skink (Eumeces egregius lividus) inhabit well drained soils along the Lake Wales Ridge in Florida. If your property is within their known range (Sand Skink Consultation Area Map), above 82-feet in elevation, and has one of their preferred soil types you will likely run into issues during development.
Often, effected property owners just assume the presence of the skinks and purchase mitigation credits in lieu of having the sand skink survey performed. This is because in order to prove that the skink are not present, the required "coverboard" survey takes at least 4-weeks to perform (min of 5 site visits) and can only be conducted for a small portion of the year (March 1st to May 15th). In addition to offering the "coverboard" surveys, Verde also offers pedestrian skink surveys which can be performed at any time of year and can help you make a decision whether or not the "coverboard" survey is a good idea.
